Dark clouds gather to the East and rumblings of war are being heard from the deck of the Good Ship Norborough. In order to possibly prevent a war (NOT!), there will be a gathering of members of the South Oaken Army to practice for war and show your capabilities in Wapakoneta, Ohio. Bring your banners and Hoist Your Colors while we prepare to trounce those from the East who are rumbling about war. There will be heavy weapon melees, rapier combat, dancing, i Scandali's Naughty Show, archery, A&S classes, Artisan's row, activities for children, merchants and much, much more to be announced. Please bring your favorite dessert to share in the Saturday night dessert revel in conjunction with dancing, games, and more. There are also murmurs of a snowball fight. All sight hounds are welcome for coursing. All pets on a leash or confined are welcome, HOWEVER, if you bring it, you must pick up after it. This is a new site with showers and lots of rest rooms - even rest rooms in the camping area! Site is discreetly wet - containers MUST be covered and removed at end of event. No ground fires. Camp stoves, grills, etc. are permitted.

THERE IS VERY LITTLE SHADE, PLEASE BRING YOUR SUNSHADES, NO CHARGE FOR SUNSHADES.

There will be a feast on Saturday featuring a whole hog roasted by Hickory River and herb-roasted chickens. The full menu will be on our website soon.
There are no equestrian activities this year.

BEAD EXCHANGE

We will be having a bead exchange on Saturday afternoon, July 12 at 2:00 PM (location TBA) at Push for Pennsic, focusing on Norse/Viking glass beads. Norse clothing and jewelry is popular in our area, but buying a lot of different beads to replicate the variety of shapes, types, and sizes of glass beads gets expensive quickly. To participate, all you need is at least one 16-inch strand of beads (they don't all have to be the same) you are willing to trade away.

For those of you who are less familiar with the beads of the Vikings but want to participate, here are some websites with pictures of artifacts and/or replicas:

Children grow so quickly - You have no sooner finished their garb and they have outgrown it. The garb swap is an opportunity to pass along outgrown garments and find something new in a larger size for your growing child or something for that new born baby. If you are new to the SCA and you have children to clothe please stop by and find a beginning kit for your little one. The Garb Swap boxes will be located at youth point. ‘Carin’ & Feedin’ the Gryphons’

At Pennsic this year, I am coordinating the ‘Valkyries’ of Flaming Gryphon to come forth and care for our fighters! I am also teaching a class at Push for Pennsic – about the history of the Valkyrie as well as how we go about doing this/ what supplies we need (e.g., jerky, fruit, pickles, water, lemonade, Gatorade, etc.) how to sign up for which battles, etc.

If you’ve been a ‘Valkyrie’ in the past, then please either e-mail me or talk to me at Push – and let me know if you can help with this! Those who are unable to assist on the sidelines can also help – by donating money, fruit, snacks to me, and I will then make sure we’re well-stocked for the war!

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

The class (again, at Push), will be called, ‘Carin’ & Feedin’ the Gryphons’ – come by and join us!
